SAN ANTONIO — A Texas woman is accused of possessing 139 pounds of methamphetamine in her vehicle while police were conducting a traffic stop, authorities said.
Karen Lastiri, 31, of San Antonio, was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.
Lastiri was stopped by Bexar County deputies at about 11:30 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, KSAT reported. Deputies said they found 139 pounds of meth in the vehicle, which has a street value of $2.5 million, the television station reported.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, along with assistance from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the case, according to a news release.
If convicted, Lastiri faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
